If hair thinning is part of the regular pattern of male pattern baldness then anything that contains an inhibitor of the enzyme 5α-Reductase (mainly type II) and the testosterone metabolite dihydrotestosterone (DHT) might help. This enzyme and the metabolite DHT are both implicated.

Saw palmetto [ Serenoa repens], nettle root , black cohosh [Actaea racemosa, Cimicifuga racemosa], willow herb [Epilobium parviflorum] can all help here.

Other herbs and supplements that can strengthen the hair include: horsetail [Equisetum arvense], zinc, B complex vitamins, protein and Methyl-sulfonyl-methane or MSM (sulphur is an integral part of the hair).

Externally you can try rosemary oil or lemongrass oil (cleanse the scalp and stimulates the circulation), capsicum/cayenne oil, ginger oil and black seed oil. You could use individually or make a cocktail.

Avoid soy (soya) as it can promote hair loss by its suppressing action on the thyroid gland. Good thyroid function is important for healthy hair so it might be a good idea to get a blood test. If you are not on thyroid medication you could take sea kelp tablets which might help with hair growth as they boost thyroid function….NOT if you are thyroid medication however.

The best things for hair (and antigraying) are
PABA, C, E, zinc and selenium, biotin and pantothenic acid and choline.
Use a PH balanced shampoo.

Drink a soy protein shake each day, as hair is protein. The other suggestions for vitamins are good (natural multi-vitamin, B complex, etc) We put lotions on our skin but forget that the scalp needs to be nourished also. There is a natural alternative from Shaklee called Pro Sante Hair Treatment. Just rub on 20 drops on the scalp each day to help nourish the scalp and stimulate hair growth naturally.

Saw Palmetto, take 320-400 mg. It has been used by herbalists for hair loss in men and women. Research shows it’s very effective for men.
Essential fatty acids, take a combonation containing a blend of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Take 4,000 mg of fish or flaxseed oil and evening primrose or borage oil containing 200 mg of GLA daily.

I used this in conjunction with the shampoo and the conditioner in an effort to stop the progression of my thinning hair. My salon had recommended it, so I thought I'd give it a try. Used it for about a year, (cuz it said results take 6 mos), and I saw absolutely no difference. It also smells.

This is a pack of 3... so if this is the first time you are using it, I would recommend buying one in the store first. Read the directions, and then... if it works great for you... BUY THIS PACK! You're going to save!!!

Trying it first recommended because it does cause some people to have reactions. Also, use the cream on the skin near the hair lines, to prevent the dye from dying the skin. Black is better for me, because I have a really dark brown hair (in the sunlight), but otherwise, it's black... and the dark brown just barely highlights. Both actually work for me, but the black is my overall better color.

I have been using it since years.
I used to use Men's Choice, but switched to this product.
At least for me, it gives a more natural color and texture to hair.
You can also shampoo the hair immediately after using it, so the dye is not left in the hair to stain the towels and pillows.
It does drip a lot, so I try not to apply too much, and soak of any extra liquid on the sides with tissue paper.
All hair dyes cause allergy over time in some people. I have some mild itching on the first day that goes away.
THE LONGER YOU LEAVE IT IN, THE DARKER WOULD BE THE COLOR.
If you leave it longer, that also decreases fading of color between applications.
I usually leave it in for at least 15-20 minutes.

Its a great product. It seems intimidating at first to use because of this fear created about the dye running all over from the sink to your forehead. Let me calm ur start up anxieties.
1) The gloves are provided in the kit- use them.
2) Vaseline borders are recommended, but you(huge baldspots may need them-I don't know) really can avoid it. Just keep wet tissues handy for the dye that runs off the hair(expect a couple of spots maybe on forehead and below sideburns). Now the dye solution is thick and not runny so its not really a stain hazard at all. Its also easy to remove from other surfaces(just keep towel or tissue handy no need to cover the basin etc etc).
3) After 5minutes it showers of easy. Just run the water a lot through the hair then shampoo.

Its a whole lot simpler than it appears. When I read the instruction I almost thought I had to cover all exposed surfaces - really! just keep some tissues and get on with it.

Topical minoxidil and oral finasteride are the only two treatments currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration [USA] for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. Both of these medications prevent further hair loss but are only able to partially reverse the baldness. Both require continuous use to maintain effectives. As effectiveness may take 6-12 months to become apparent, these agents should be used for at least 1 year before deciding whether to continue treatment.

I’m balding too, my friend. I’m 38 though. I started losing my hair at 17. I had a friend who used Rogaine. It made a difference but it really wasn’t what he wanted. His hair grew thicker everywhere he wasn’t bald and only mild new growth where he was bald. In other words, it worked but it didn’t work well. He also developed the worst case of dandruff I have ever seen.
I hated watching him go through this because I was actually considering trying Rogaine. Because of what it did to his hair and scalp I decided against it.
There is no cure for baldness. You are going to lose your hair, anyway. Even the best treatments are risky, because you have to take medications that messes with the natural balance of chemicals in your body. Or you have to go get the rag-doll plugs. Baldness is no big deal. Whether or not you have hair should not define you. Just because your bald doesn’t mean people won’t find you attractive. It just means your bald.
